I truly believe that art heals. My goal as an artist is to create uplifting art that brings healing and awareness to mental health/illnesses through emotive vibrant color choices and imagery. Sharing my story and encounters of joy, healing and hope. Using my paint brush and artwork to share my story, vulnerably through color and portraiture. Creating freely, authentically while advocating for the creative economy and creating opportunities for my community is my responsibility as an artist and I am determined to do that and more.

Born in the beautiful islands of the Bahamas, with Trinidadian roots, I am Monika Anne Cunningham, artist, designer and owner of Moniianne : Art, Designs and Custom Products. Art is my heart and passion and I truly believe that Art Heals. I started exploring art from a young age, experimenting with new materials like paints and fabrics. Creating gave me an explainable joy and peace, especially during difficult times and battling my anxiety disorder. I realized that the sky is the limit and age is only a number so I started selling my paintings and custom t-shirts at age 15. A little island gyal chasing her dreams! 

As I continue my art journey and career, I am grateful for the ability to dream and meet such beautiful people and inspire at least one person. Art allowed me to escape the darkness and pain; converting it into meaning and light. When I create, I feel empowered because I can create whatever I desire. I can express what is within or observed and share that with the world. I can make an impact. When I create, I feel the paint moving across the canvas speaking without words. I feel unexplainable calmness and control. I am in control. No one can see what is in my mind but me or foresee my thoughts and that for me is a thrill. My purpose is to create, inspire and be a light in this world.
